What is Saint Patrick's School, You Ask?

So what is Saint Patrick’s School you ask? Saint Patrick’s School is a Catholic school that is in Panmure, Auckland, New Zealand. It is a community facility. It is used for learning and making new friends. Students at Saint Patrick’s School learn a lot of subjects to become smarter thinkers. They learn subjects like R.E, inquiry, writing and maths.

    Most people at this school are students. Students are children who goes to a certain school to learn, create and share new things. There are more than 100 students at this school. Isn’t that cool? The teachers at Saint Patrick’s School are qualified and trained teachers. There is a teacher for every two year levels. Mrs Bullot is the principal at Saint Patrick’s School. A principal runs, guides and looks after the students in this school. She buy the stationeries and sports gear for the students and teachers.

There are a lot of facilities at this school. There is an office for photocopying documents and sending the attendance roll. There is also a library who is run by Mrs Yumul which can be found near Room One and Two for students to read books to get more information. There is also a sick bay where a sick student may go to in order to have a rest while waiting for their parents to come to pick them up. The lunchroom is where pupils at Saint Patrick’s School order their lunches.

Most students come early to school. School starts from 8.45am in the morning to 2.40pm in the afternoon. There are two break times, morning tea and lunchtime. At morning tea and lunch, they encourage healthy eating so students can concentrate. When they finished eating their food, they wait for the bell to ring. They play on the school’s playground and courts. When the bell rings, that’s the time for the students to get back to their classrooms to continue their education.

Student at Saint Patrick’s School are lucky because they have many programs and events. They get exercise and learn new skills from Kiwisports (thanks to the principal). Kiwisports teach the children different types of sports such as softball, soccer, AFL, gymnastics, basketball and many more. Saint Patrick’s School is a Duffy school. Students get free Duffy Books to read. There are also Duffy Assemblies or theatres to engage the students.

Saint Patrick’s School celebrates Saint Patrick’s Day and Daffodil Day. Daffodil Day is a time where students bring a gold coin and wear something yellow to school. They donate money to people who have cancer. They also celebrate the uniting of the cultures through a Cultural Festival. Students perform dances from different countries.

Saint Patrick’s School is part of the Tamaki Cluster. The Tamaki Cluster is a group of school that use chromebooks or netbooks for their work. This school has summer and winter uniforms for girls and boys to wear for school which can be found at the Warehouse in Sylvia Park.

Our Heart Keeps Us Going

The heart is something that beats in our bodies. Hearts keep our body alive. The faster you run, the faster your heart beats.  There are four different components of blood - red blood cells, white blood cells, liquid and plasma.

Every time a heart beats, the blood circulates around the body. The blood circulates the body, it is called a circulatory system. It pumps blood through tiny tubes that circulate around the body. After the blood is pushed to all parts of the body, it keeps going around the body.

Our heart is important because it keeps us alive. It helps us to circulate our blood inside as it pumps the blood through our veins.

Frost Needs to Be Formed With Cold Weather!

Frost is a small white ice crystal that forms on any surface. The size of frost crystals depending on the time they have been forming and building up. It can be made when it’s the same temperature for freezing water.

If frost is to occur, it must be really cold weather. Frost is made up of spicules and ice. Spicules are a minute sharp-pointed object like icicles.

If it is cold enough, the moisture from the air freezes. It leaves trees and any other plant covered with ice crystals. Frost is white because the crystals contain air.

Frost is important because it cools down the air when it’s hot. Without frost there can’t be winter and people will get too hot.

Do You Know That There Is Light Wind And Strong Wind?

Wind is air that moves. There is strong wind and light wind. It helps us to cool down on sunny days. Hurricanes and tornadoes are types of strong winds that can be really dangerous.

Where there is strong wind, the air is moving fast and quickly. Where there is light wind, the air is moving slowly and steadily and this is called a breeze. We get wind because some places are warmer than other places. Another reason is because the warm air heats up, which becomes light so it rises to the sky.

There are three types of wind. Wind blowing from the north is called a Northerly and when wind is blowing from the south, it is called a Southerly. Without wind we could get too hot and our skin could burn.

Did You Know That Sound Waves Is The Sound We Hear?

WALT use the correct structure on our writing. I can do this by using the correct paragraphs.

You can hear sounds because there are sound waves in the air. Sound waves are vibrations in the air. It makes you hear things.

The sound waves are collected by the outer ear which causes the eardrums to vibrate. As soon as the eardrum vibrates the anvil, hammer and stirrup wobbles and moves the liquid inside the ear. The nerves picks up the liquid’s movement and sends it to the brain. The brain makes sense of the messages and lets us recognise the sounds we can hear.

It is important that we hear things because some things might be important like listening to the news for us to know. Without our hearing sense of hearing, we may be deaf and not being aware of danger.

The Historical Panmure Cottage has to be Maintained!

The Panmure Cottage is a historical site in Panmure. It was relocated from McDonald’s in Panmure to near Saint Patrick’s School (Panmure). It was built with stones in the 19th Century. It is a two storey cottage with steep stairs on the inside. The cottage has six rooms all together.

There are four rooms downstairs and two rooms upstairs. There is a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen and a room filled with tools downstairs. There is a bedroom and an attic upstairs. All of the rooms are filled with antique things in the past. There is a bunch of lavenders in every room to make the room smell nice and welcoming.

There were photographs of children and the people who used to live in the cottage in the rooms. There is a chalkboard, two stones, saws and a cradle that used to be placed outside. There is an embroidery of the Panmure Cottage upstairs. There was also a dryer, a washing tool and old pictures. There are also two big bibles placed on a table in the cottage.

Now the cottage is open every second Sunday of each month at Panmure. It is used for people to learn about the history in Panmure. People can learn more of their identity and culture.

It is important that we maintain Panmure Cottage so people can learn about the history of Panmure in order to understand more about their identity and culture of where they live.

Educational Schools are Really Cool!

Schools like St Patrick’s School is a place where children from the age of 5 can have a education. Teachers teach the children in Rooms that have different year levels. There are six rooms at Saint Patrick's School like Room 2, Room 1, Room 4, Room 5, Room 6 and Room 8.

As the children come to school they hang their bags and prepare for a new day at school. The school bell rings at 8.45 am. When the bell goes, students go to class and then we have Karakia (prayer) because we are a Catholic School.

After prayer, we have roll call and then the day begins. Subjects are scheduled at different parts of the day. At 10.45 the bell rings and it is Morning Tea. Morning Tea ends at  11.10 and the children head back to class. At 12.45 another bell ring which means it is Lunch time. They eat their lunch and play until 13.25, the end of Lunch. They learn different new things every day. At 2.45 they pray and then they go and line up for hometime.

Schools are important for children so they can have a good education and find a good job when they will grow older. Without schools, we would not be able to learn the skills that we need to be successful.

Fantastic Firefighters Save The Day

Firefighters 

Why do we need firefighters? 

Firefighters are people who wear red fire-proof uniforms. Their main job is to put out fires. Sometimes they save pets (or any other things or people) from high trees. Firefighters can be any person, girl or boy, who are brave and not scared of fire. They can be in the age of 20 and higher.

They might help you when your house is on fire. The only way they can go there is to contact 111 on anyone’s phone that is not in the place where the fire is. You have to tell the people that there is an emergency and that you need the firefighters, to resolve the situation and at your location. You can only call them when there is a fire-related emergency.

After you finished calling the firefighters, you have to wait outside the house patiently. They will arrive at your house on a big, red fire engine. If there’s a person inside crying for help, one of the firefighters will go inside the house and they will carefully save the worried and trapped person. The rest of the firefighters will come out with water hoses and spray enough water to put out the destructive fire.

Firefighters are really useful because they save people’s lives. If we didn't have firefighters in the first place we would get killed by rising fire. Some of them also save people from any other dangers.
