Schools are using Minecraft!

Kiwi Kids - Minecraft Being Used in Schools

Article Summary:
Over 200 schools in United Kingdom use Minecraft for education. Minecraft is a game that has no round objects and you have to survive in a world where anyone can join in. The article says that it helps children who doesn't like using books. Teachers say Minecraft helps people with their reading and writing.

My opinion on this article:
I don’t think Minecraft should be used in schools because it won’t help the people that don’t like using books. Sometimes, using a netbook / chromebook / laptop / computer can distract the children because there are many advertisements and games that pop up which could distract from their work. Another reason why kids should not play Minecraft in their schools is because the blocks in the game are not real and so they may cause confusion with reality. Once, my brother played Minecraft and my dad said that it will mess with his head.

APOPS came back to Saint Patrick's School!

Today, the whole school came to the hall to watch APOPS perform. The group that was performing was called ‘Vivo’. There was a Violin, a Double Bass and an Accordion. APOPS stands for Auckland Symphony Orchestra.

First, they played a song that was produced by Beethoven. They asked us if he was still alive and we said ‘No’. Did you know that Beethoven’s songs are still alive today? He died a long time ago. Suddenly, we heard pots and pans clanging together. Two pirates came up the stairs. One was holding a Guitar. It was an Electric Guitar. Both of them performed a song. Then they walked back to where they came up.

Then Vivo played a Tango song. Do you know that Tango comes from Argentina? The Accordion was the most important instrument in Tango. We mostly heard the Accordion. Then pots and pans clanged together again, this meant that the pirates were coming back. The little children were screaming and pointing to them. Unfortunately, he was talking about picking noses so that created more noise. Then they both sang a song about picking noses.

Afterwards, Viva played a Gypsy song. A Gypsy is someone who goes in a caravan and travels to many places. The song was slow at first, then fast, then slow and then fast at the end. Mostly, we heard the violin. The pirates were applauding Vivo for their performance. They were talking about Limbo. He told us how to play Pirate Limbo. It is similar to normal limbo but you have to touch your nose and say ‘And there she goes’ when you go under the rope. They sang a song about it. One was playing a Harmonica and the other played an Electric guitar. Then they left the stage.
`
Then, Vivo played a song called ‘The Swan’. They told us to imagine the Accordion was playing the ripples of the water and the Double Bass was the swan. And then  the double bass, the accordion and the violin played together another song. The pirates came back after that and then told us to stand up. When they say ‘Hoist’, we had to put our hands up. When they said ‘Flying in the sky’, we had to wave our arms like window wipers. They sang with the words, ‘Hoist’ and ‘Flying in the sky’ and we had to do the hand actions.

After that, Vivo played a Tango song which meant Goodbye. They asked us where Tango comes from and we said ‘Argentina’. Then the pirates came out again and sang their last song. One was playing the Kazoo and the other one was playing the electric guitar. Then they told us to listen to our parents.

It was fun to see APOPS again. I wonder what APOPS will bring us next time. My favourite part was when the pirates came.
