Have You Been To The Manaikalani Film Festival Before?

That was awesome! On Wednesday, after morning tea, the whole school went on two buses to Hoyts at Sylvia Park for the Manaikalani Film Festival. There were a lot of students from different schools that came to the Film Festival.
Once we went into the cinema, we looked for a spot to sit down. I thought there was no more room until Mrs Foden led me to a vacant chair. When everyone was ready to watch, a man spoke on the microphone and greeted us.
We watched some videos from Glenbrae School, Glen Innes School, Tamaki College and Saint Patrick’s School. I saw the movie that Room 6 made last term and I thought it looked cool! My favourite movie was the ‘Hunger Games’ and 'Tamaki MasterChef' by Tamaki College.
When the Film Festival was over, we saw other schools waiting to go in for the next session. It was raining outside and we had to wait for our bus to come. The teachers did not know which bus to take until a bus driver said, “I think this is the bus you should take!”
We went in that bus and it drove us back to school. Unfortunately, it passed Saint Patrick’s School turn off and we went all the way to Pakuranga! Everyone was surprised. Luckily, the bus driver made a U-turn and he eventually drove the bus back to school.
When we came out of the bus, a lot of children were waiting for us because they arrived some time ago on another bus. Everyone was wondering where we went and we told them the long trip that we had.
It was fun going to the Film Festival. I like the videos that we watched and the long trip on the way back. I hope next year we might have a longer trip to Glen Innes next year!

WALT write a recount using appropriate language features. I can do this when I add vocabulary in my writing.

I really enjoyed reading your recount about the film festival and I enjoyed seeing the language that you had used. I like how you added the details about the story and I was surprised that the bus driver missed the turn for your school and ended up going all the way to Pakuranga.

I was at the very first Manaiakalani Film Festival many years ago so I was excited to read about your recount, although the very first one was just held at Tamaki College in their AV Room instead of at Sylvia Park. So I think it was exciting to read about all the things that you had written. You mentioned the two films from Tamaki College but I surprised to read that you didn't mention St Patricks, who did you think had done the best from your own school? Do you have links to those videos and movies?

    1. Hi Myles Webb! No, I did not have links to the movies. I think Room 8 did the best from Saint Patrick's School. Thank you for telling me about your experience at the first Manaikalani Film Festival. I didn't have the opportunity to attend back then!
